Static Apnea Training - Egypt 2014, Apnea Academy Instructors Course

Static Apnea Training - Egypt 2014, Apnea Academy Instructors Course

THE ART OF APNEA

The Art of Apnea is a program designed to educate on the science behind apnea (breath hold), so as to give students the ability to hold their breath for extended periods of time in both passive and dynamic situations whilst maintaining a positive and relaxed state of mind.

In most situations, for the waterman, the biggest challenge brought on by the ocean is the fear of drowning. Running out of air whilst underwater and asphyxiating. The art of apnea program is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and confidence to remove this fear.

During the course of the program students will be faced with many challenges, both mental and physical, students will apply their new gained knowledge to move through anxiety and fears as they arise. At the end of the day perceived limits of apnea endurance will have been surpassed leaving students with a sense of deep satisfaction and confidence in their ability as an apniest.

Aquaticity for children

In Australia, children are exposed to far more risky ocean conditions than in other counties. Rips, undertows, currents, deep water, large waves are not an un common occurrence.

For this reason Aquaticity for children was developed, to prepare children both physically and mentally for the ocean.

The principal aim of this course is to teach children to overcome their natural suspicion of the water by learning to go safely underwater.  Instruction is facilitated by using games and activities that children enjoy, and the instructor encourages the children to use their imagination.

As children develop they begin to understand that there are both predictable and unpredictable events.  With the increase in age the level of awareness, coordination and ways of thinking and perceiving all change, as does reasoning ability and judgement.  The ability to take into consideration and coordinate several different factors gives birth to a new consciousness that separates the child from the previous way of considering each concept separately.

The objective of the course will be to extend these capacities whilst conveying the meaning of the exercises.

The program proposes exercises that are even vaguely competitive, such as the pursuit of a maximum time or distance. Instead we promote the other aspects, such as listening to the body’s sensations and signals, communication with the companion, and breathing technique, all in the pursuit of maximum safety and enjoyment.

ADVANTAGES FOR CHILDREN

Develop physical capacity

    •    Improve vital capacity of respiratory system.

    •    Develop control of breathing.

    •    Gradual adaptation of thermal regulation, since water is an environment that involves rapid      body cooling.

    •    Strength, such as is necessary for surfing and ocean swimming.

    •    Flexibility and mobility, e.g. in the shoulders in order to improve hydrodynamics.

    •    Coordination in exercises of disassociation between arms and legs.

Develop powers of perception

    •    Feel the body’s weight in water.

    •    Feel the propulsive force of a movement.

    •    Learn to feel the amplitude of the finstroke.

Control of emotions that can create dangerous situations

    •    The desire to return to breathing.
